This weekend was weird, dude. It felt like I didn’t have a weekend at all actually.
Friday was our annual office Christmas party (that I had to plan, in full)-
Everything turned out well except that that we were a bit crammed together (two long tables parallel to one another with 50 guests).
Open bar- and a 4 course meal- all on the company dime.
Not to mention our Christmas bonuses…. which everyone looks forward to all year.
-
I order a frozen margarita with salt- and I got a melted margarita-y mess with liquor poured on top. NO BUENO.
I ended up drinking on Ketel One White Russian with the MASSIVE PILES of fried calamari appetizers and the hot spinach dip/garlic bread.
The appetizers were the best part of the meal by far.
LOOK HOW THRILLED WE ARE:

the melted margarite is in the picture. lol.

OK so my coworkers are (for the most part) nice enough people but honestly I have nothing in common with anyone in my office. I am the youngest employee and one of three people whom are (closeted at the office) Obama voters.
The rest are upper-middle class white redneck types with a really rabid affinity for Ronald Reagan.
-
With that said, I sat next to the people in which I am the closest to age-wise.
I was still completely awkward and well sort of nervous about the turnout of the party.
If anything went wrong- it would ultimately be my cross to bear. (inappropriate cliche’ to use during Christmas time? )
-
After 2.5 hours and with bonus in hand- I had to leave as soon as humanly possible. I couldnt take it anymore.
I am so socially awkward as it is- but add office politics to the mix and I was in hell.

Saturday, I spent most of the day with my mom while finishing up my Christmas shopping.
I love christmas shopping but I hate spending money I just got as a bonus….
My mom already put her house up for sale and the sign was in the yard when I arrived.

After shopping for a million years with my mom and doing some laundry-
I went to see Four Christmases with Crystal. She showed me her new apartment and we had dinner afterward,
I really miss hanging out with Crystal and I wish that she lived closer to Houston.
Nowadays I only see her once every couple of months.

Sunday- I bought the very last few presents at Best Buy and World Market-
then came home and watched football ALL DAY. I’m talking Noon-10pm of nonstop football.
All three games I had a vested interest in- so for the first time in forever I partook in the 3 game marathon.
The VIKINGS WON so one more win or if the Chicago Bears lose one more- we are in the playoffs. YAY!

Now I have exactly one more gift to buy for christmas and then its officially over for me-
One thing about this year is that
I never realized how hard it is to buy gifts for my 13 year old niece.
Everything I was into at 13 is not even on the radar for her.
She specifically asked for shoes, rings, sunglasses, and the star wars trilogy.
In my mind, she acts like I did at age 11.
(which is GOOD!!! i acted like i knew everything at 13- and well being a punk rock kid at that age isnt the best scenario for a parent to deal with)-
-
I think she acts younger than I did because she is growing up in the “country” out in the middle of nowhere.
I guess she is acting 13 on some levels- eye liner obsession, she listens to lil wayne, and has an inexplicable taste for Hollister clothing…
It still weirds me out to know I was 12 years old when she was born- and now I am the old lady nervously biting my nails anticipating her inevitable awkward adolescence.
-
Did I mention that her first CD ever was a green day album (1,034- without the one song that has a curse word)- I gave her that CD when she was 5 years old. I had to find music that was kid appropriate (and masked innuendo instead of blatant!) like Green Day, New Found Glory, Social Distorion, etc. I also got her hooked on star wars and Johnny Cash and my obsession with penguins.
Part of me is relieved that she didn’t turn out more like myself…. save for the few random things like star wars and such.
(oh I should mention she is an award winning photographer for several years running)

Next weekend is going to be HECTIC because I have 3 different friends coming in from out of state-
plus I will be ice skating with Paige, Can, and Dan on Sunday among a million other things before the real holiday time starts.
I am appreciating the slow buildup to nonstop eventfulness- yay for nonbusy time this week.

p.s. i made mashed potatoes and rice krispy treats for dinner last night. <3
